Managing reinforced concrete on a major site for a Tier 1 Contractor comes with challenges: high volumes, embedded steel, and strict grading requirements -all performed within stringent safety standards. On a recent project, we processed 25,000 tonnes of concrete directly on-site — turning demolition material into spec-compliant crushed product for reuse.
Project Snapshot
- Volume: 25,000 tonnes of concrete
- Spec requirement: 80% passing through 19.8 mm
- Approach: On-site crushing, screening, and material refinement
- Bonus: Steel extracted for recycling
Our Process
To meet specification and minimise double-handling, we deployed a mobile, multi-stage crushing setup:
- Excavators (including a Caterpillar 352 fitted with Rotar RDP 425 Pulverizer) to break down reinforced concrete
- Magnet-equipped excavator to remove embedded steel
- Crushing circuit:
-
- Powerscreen Premiertrak 760 Jaw Crusher for primary reduction
- Powerscreen Warrior 2400 Screen for sorting
- Powerscreen 1300 Maxtrak Cone Crusher for final grading
This sequence enabled us to consistently produce a 75mm minus product, meeting the required grading of 80% pass at 19.8mm.
The Outcome
- 25,000 tonnes processed on-site
- Spec met: 80% pass at 19.8 mm
- Efficient flow from feed to final product
- Steel removed and recycled as a by-product
Why It Matters
Processing concrete on-site cuts transport costs, reduces waste, and keeps projects moving. With the right equipment and workflow, we can turn demolition material into a compliant, usable product — ready for reuse.
